What inspired you to pursue a career in the property industry?
My career in property began unexpectedly after I realised academia wasn't for me. As a people person, I sought opportunities to engage directly with clients. I started as a lettings administrator and transitioned into property management, where I've found my professional home for the last 20 years. Working closely with teams, clients, and customers has brought me the most satisfaction, and what started as an unplanned journey turned out to be the best decision, allowing me to build relationships and make a meaningful impact.
How has your role evolved since you first started?
I started as a lettings administrator and progressed through property management roles to become a director. One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been witnessing the business grow from managing 500 properties to a much larger operation. This experience taught me to adapt to change while maintaining high-quality service and fostering personal and professional growth.
Have you faced any challenges in the property industry? How did you overcome them?
Adapting to constant changes in property legislation has been one of the biggest challenges, but I've always focused on staying ahead. By embracing and preparing for these shifts, I've ensured our clients continue to receive high-quality service. I believe embracing change is crucial, using it as an opportunity to evolve and proactively manage challenges.
What achievement are you most proud of in your career?
My biggest career achievements include becoming ARLA qualified, being appointed as a director, and being recognised as a finalist for Learner of the Year at the Property Mark Qualifications Awards.
What advice would you give other women aspiring to enter the property industry?
Entering the property industry as a woman and working mum in a senior role can be challenging, but it also brings unique strengths. My advice to other women is to trust in your abilities—despite property being seen as a male-dominated industry, women offer invaluable perspectives, empathy, and multitasking skills, especially in managing teams and navigating complex changes.
